Life always surprises people in ways they can never think of. For her and her husband, Tim, it was in the form of two little angels. The journey started when they came to their house as foster children, looking forward to receiving love and care, but now, they are their sons!
When the couple decided to become foster parents to children out of goodness and love for little humans, they already had five biological children, so they ran their nursery. Initially, the couple decided to take one child in foster care for the long term; however, a call that pleaded their urgent need helped change it all. It’s always humanity before any plans or dreams.
The couple received a call from the social workers, and they requested that they keep the two brothers for only ten days. Of course, the couple could not refuse, as it was just a matter of ten days before things would return to normal. If they declined, it would have had an adverse effect, i.e., the boys would have been separated. It would be a lifetime trauma for them as their sisters were already split from them some time ago.
No was not a possible answer.
When they arrived, carried in the arms of social workers, they looked scared. They were small and quiet. The older one was three, and the younger one was almost two years old. Two silent babies with clothes that weren’t theirs, thin hair, and pale skin. It looked like the two of them had been living in poor conditions and hadn’t eaten a lovely meal in weeks, so the couple first offered them food, which they received. Looking at such worse conditions of two poor souls, their hearts were shattered.
Looking at how the babies were not comfortable yet, Tim immediately rushed to bring a train set, which at least made them smile, and a spark appeared on their faces. On the first night in their home, both the kids had slept with their shoes and were holding on to something, which was probably habitual. In a few days, they were seen bonding quickly and deeply, although they suffered when it came to learning to speak or personal development.
Every small win of the toddlers felt like an individual win for the couple.
After years, a suitable home was found for both the kids, but adoption failed once again, so it was said that they needed to be separated to be placed in homes. However, this was unacceptable for the couple, who had observed the beautiful bond they shared. They fought for them, but it took time, and the kids returned home with the couple.
They brought joy and happiness to the home, and the couple also developed a sense of belonging to them. Once the couple broke the news to the family, it was even more challenging as the emotional and behavioral support provided was limited, and some did not even accept it.
November 6th, 2017, was the day of pride for the couple as the adoption was confirmed. The couple, family, and court had mixed emotions, but it was breathtakingly beautiful. The couple even made shirts for the boys with their surnames and ages on the back, which they wore to school.
In a few days, the brothers started calling Tim ‘Dad,’ which was the most beautiful experience the couple had gone through. Although adoption is hard, it is always worth it! The journey of tiny, scared boys to see their side bikes and play football was a magical story.
