I am an African American male. Never a sibling, I am also a police officer. Throughout the years, I have strived to positively impact people’s lives. I once donated my socks to a homeless man without any shoes. On another case, I covered a woman’s laundry cleaner cost to prevent her arrest. She was in a tough spot, and I observed that.
Not long ago, I helped an older man whose vehicle failed. Lacking a phone, I took him to a gas station and covered his fuel costs. I am more than just a police officer i am also a father, a husband, a son, a brother, and a friend. When others stare at me with fear or hostility, it pains me. Why would someone wish to harm me when i have only shown kindness?
I have detained aggressive crooks and assisted in safeguarding victims. I once assisted in saving an infant’s life when a panicky mother dialed 911 and her baby was not breathing. We reached the scene before the ambulance and initiated CPR. That baby is now happy and healthy. I have sprinted toward salvo shots rang out in a crowd, risking my own safety to safeguard others. That is what I enrolled in do serve and safeguard.
At times, individuals measure me based on my manner of speaking. I use relaxed language; I might say “what is up, yo?” Instead of a proper greeting. That does not imply i am uneducated. I have a high school diploma, a collage degree, and love learning. I finished first in my police academy class and became an instructor. I have joined in community gatherings and media interviews.
When i am off duty, I sport loose-fitting jeans and snug hats. I possess tattoos. I enjoy hip-hop music. However, those aspects do not determine my identity. I have been branded and judged based on my arrival. However, it does not alter the depth of my concern. I dedicate my holidays to assisting others by distributing warm meals, gloves, and hats to the homeless and senior citizens. I serve as a youth mentor, go to schools, and stroll through the communities where I reside and work.
I am not Derek Chauvin, and I would never behave towards anyone the way George Floyd was treated. I exist as myself. Additionally, there are numerous officers similar to me: sympathetic, considerate, dedicated to doing what is just. Kindly perceive us for our true selves.
