80-Year-Old Woman in Tears Says, ‘We’re Afraid to Go in the Store’; Woman Urges, ‘Offer Help to Anyone You Can’ During Coronavirus Hysteria

I visited the grocery store this afternoon, just as I do on any typical day. While I was entering, I heard someone shout my name. I looked back and saw an older woman in her car alongside her husband. She opened the window slightly and stared at me with watery eyes. In a unsteady voice, she stated that they were both in their 80s and frightened to enter. They had heard a lot about how the coronavirus was affecting older individuals particularly harshly, and without any relatives close by to assist them, they felt uncertain about what action to take.

She slid a $100 bill and short grocery list through the window gap. She inquired whether I would be open to buying their groceries. I was frankly surprised not due to the request, but because of how long they had obviously expected asking. She later informed me they had been there for almost 45 minutes, too scared to enter, and waiting to encounter someone they could trust enough to feel safe.

I clutched their list, went in, and collected all the items they required. After I finished checking out, I placed the groceries in their trunk and gave her back the change. She felt a deep sense of thankfulness, and I was simply thankful that I happened to pass by at that moment.

Right now everything feels scary and uncertain for everyone. Yet this moment made me realize that certain individuals sincerely lack support from others. Should you have the capacity if you notice someone requiring assistance extend your help. We’re all in this as one, and for certain individuals, your sympathy might be the support they’ve been eager for.
