One Twin in Heaven, One in their Arms: A Family’s Journey Through Twin Loss, Grief, and Miraculous Hope

One Twin in Heaven, One in their Arms: A Family’s Journey Through Twin Loss, Grief, and Miraculous Hope

When the couple learned that they were expecting twins soon, their happiness doubled, and love and laughter filled the home. However, it ended up being a test for them. They were quickly left heartbroken and shattered, not knowing how they could be so grateful yet broken simultaneously.
This was when the doctors told the parents how their children could get twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome as the scans showed how both twins were sharing the mother’s placenta.

This situation is known as Mono Di, when children have their sacs but share placenta. Observing every little detail and learning every bit of the situation, the doctors assured the couple that things would turn out fine.
The parents also did not get disappointed; instead, their faith strengthened as the news of expecting twins was a total surprise for them—something they did not see coming their way. The babies also appeared to be healthy despite being diagnosed with Mono Di, so chances were high that the pregnancy would go smoothly. However, at 30 weeks, the mother was concerned about something unusual.

The baby kicks she usually used to feel became less, and she could no longer feel them properly, as both boys’ kicks kept her at peace, knowing that her babies were safe and were doing perfectly fine. So, even though she had already visited the ER recently, she decided it was time to go again, and her intuition was correct. Only one heartbeat was found this time.
However, the doctor told her that it could be because of the positioning of the babies and advised her to go to a hospital with better facilities and equipment, and so the couple rushed to one, where the news was confirmed.

With teary eyes and a stuttering tongue, the doctor revealed that Baby B wasn’t breathing anymore. What was previously the most significant source of joy was now a heartbreak for the couple as the sorrow of losing one of their babies covered them.
What made the situation even worse was when the doctors told them how Elizebeth had to be rushed to perform a C-section to protect Baby A, as he, too, was in distress and had to be saved as soon as possible through surgery only.

The surgery was a success, and in a few hours, Liam, the first baby, was taken to the NICU immediately. The other baby, who weighed only 3 pounds, came out silent with no movements and passed away in the womb. Baby B was placed in his parents’ arms so they could hold him close for a while. It remains one of the dearest memories to the couple. The couple decided to give him a beautiful name with a strong meaning, i.e., Noah Ezeikel, which means ‘Comfort’, ‘God will strengthen’. Moreover, the couple also did a quick photoshoot with the baby to capture his portraits.

The doctors later told the couple that the reason Noah passed away was TTTs, and it was a miracle that Liam remained safe, as in such a case, both twins usually pass away. Liam fought through all hardships as he too had a premature birth, and after 2 months in the NICU, he was taken home.

The couple is thankful to God and firmly believes they will reunite with their baby someday. Their story depicts how humans can feel joy and sorrow at once!
