My Daughter Changed Her Profile Picture, and Minutes Later I Got a Racist Text That Left Me Stunned

Today, my daughter updated her profile picture. Less than five minutes later, I received a message that read, ‘I had no idea she was in a relationship with a Black guy did you?’I spent the entire day making a reply, which I didn’t send directly but thought to share for others who ‘might not be aware.Truly, I was aware, but his skin color does not determine his identity. What defines who he is, is the way he treats my daughter.

I observe that my daughter going out with a young man who visits my home and treats me with nothing but respect (which is very important to me). It’s regularly Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am; we discuss football and baseball, he says goodbye when he departs, and has never displayed any insolence or disrespect towards me.\

I observe my daughter going out with a boy who is kind to her. He brings her on outings, to sports events, out for meal not to a nightclub or celebrating on weekends.

I notice my daughter going out with a boy who brings her to church. Each Sunday. He performs with the band, and she typically remains with his family. Honestly, how many young men today  order attending church? None of the others have attempted that before.

He doesn’t  assault her, curse at her, deceive her, or cause her to leaks. Would I prefer her to date a white guy who did, instead of her dating someone of a different race? Definitely not.

That’s my answer to the question posed to me. I understand that everyone has their own standpoint, but finally, what brings me joy is knowing that my daughter has someone who loves her and treats her like royalty. “That’s an experience I’ve never run into in my life, and I’m  happy she has it.”
