When I was just six weeks old, doctors found that my ovaries weren’t connected right during an ultrasound. They decided to remove them. At 13, I learned I would never be able to have children. That’s when I started looking into adoption.

As I got older, one of my biggest fears was telling someone I loved that I couldn’t carry our children. Then I met Jason. He was a single dad with two wonderful boys. We fell in love quickly. Before we got engaged, I shared my biggest secret with him. I cried as I told him. He held my face and said it didn’t matter how our children came to us. They would be ours.

Last June, we were approved to adopt. We didn’t go through an agency, they were expensive and didn’t feel right. So we decided to do it ourselves. We created a Facebook page, shared updates on Instagram, and also turned to adoption.com to spread the word. We even ran ads. We talked to several women, but many were scams. Then we got a message on Facebook from a woman in Missouri. She said her friend was pregnant and looking for a family.

On September 1st, we talked for over an hour. We built a connection, but she never gave us real proof of pregnancy. I wanted to believe her, but Jason suggested we update our profile just one more time. The next day, a new woman messaged us. She said she’d been following our story and wanted to meet.

Two days later, we met at a diner near our home. Just when we thought she might not show up, she walked in with her mom. She let us see ultrasound pictures of the baby boy, guided my hand to feel his kicks, and by the end of our meal, she asked if we would adopt her child.
Jason and I cried right there in the diner.

Three weeks later, on October 30th, 2017, our son Andy was born. He was placed in my arms first, and I gently kissed his little fingers.
In January, the birth mother got back in touch with us.
She said she didn’t feel right about the family she had picked and knew this baby was meant for us. Six weeks later, we flew to Missouri and stood by her side as our second son, Ellis, was born. Jason even cut the cord.

After four months, we brought her eldest son, Sean, to come stay with us for a visit. He stayed all summer, joined the football team, and asked to live with us. His mom agreed.

Now we have five amazing boys. They aren’t my real kids, but i am still their mother. Love made this family. And I wouldn’t change a thing.
