Longest-Living Married Couple with Down Syndrome Share a Fairy-Tale Love

Tommy was born on March 21, 1958, which is World Down condition Day, and Maryanne on May 17, 1971. I’ve occupied care of them both for the past 16 ages I’m Maryanne’s sister. Their love story is sincerely sole, and they both have Down syndrome.

Life must been easy for Maryanne. She was once too frightened to leave home due to intimidation, but she recovered her strength with love and provision. Greeting Tommy at a nearby workout facility in 1990 marked the start of her readiest chapter. Their joint love of cooking directly bonded them, and after dating for 18 months, Tommy always the gentleman asked our mother for consent to pop the query.

In 1995, they were wedded in front of 250 guests in a lovely rite. Tommy wore a abruptly custom made suit, and Maryanne, in her white gown and tiara, observed like a princess. Everyone was enthused to tears by their first dance to “(I’ve needed) The Time of My Lifetime.

They moved into the flat next door to our mother sixteen years ago, and with our daily assistance, they are now living independently. After losing both of his parents when he was young, Tommy had to grow up in foster care, but with help, he picked up life skills, personal hygiene, and healthier habits. Since then, they have never been apart, always smiling and holding hands.

Tommy loves Maryanne and tells her “I admire you” many times a day. Maryanne is developing, maternal, and infrequently regulatory. During a trip to Disney, their bond was particularly obvious when they stood arm in arm and wondered at the fireworks.

Tommy was assumed an Alzheimer’s analysis five years ago. Maryanne assists him with ordinary doings like taking a shower and uphill stairs, even though she doesn’t fully understand the illness. We clarify it as him being disordered from a bad dream,” but some days are problematic he forgets who she is, and it hurts her emotion.

Together, they have overwhelmed obstacles like local theft and community about their nupital. The neighborhood came composed after Tommy’s wallet was stolen, and the illegal was detained.

They needed assistance with money, cyclical clothing, cooking safety, and interpretation, writing, and period. However, they have established that love can flourish when given the proper reassurance. In totaling to triumph Tommy’s 60th birthday on World Down Syndrome Day in 2018, they have double reformed their promises.

Many said it would never work when they got engaged. They continue as content as the day they first met, even after decades have approved. Their happy, keen, and obliging marriage proves to the world that love has no limits.
