She Tried Every Diet Until She Realized the Real Work Was in the Mirror: MC Solomon’s Story of Weight Loss and Worth

MC Solomon, also known as MCLIVINIT, experienced a life-changing transformation after losing 150 pounds in just one year. Apart from the physical change, she got to know herself and discovered more saggy skin than she ever imagined. Her struggle with weight had lasted her whole life. She had tried almost everything, including counseling, nutrition classes, fat camps, diets, cleanses, and even surgery, but nothing worked long-term because she had never truly loved herself. Today, she focuses not only on her body but also on her mind, recognizing that both  care and attention she needs.

She grew up in Dallas, Texas, in a large and loving family. Her childhood appeared perfect, full of singing, crafts, family meals, cooking with her grandmother, and attending church with her grandfather. Yet at the age of nine, her life began to shift when she was sent to fat camp. She attended these summer camps every year until she was fifteen. The camps were intense, with strict diets, rigorous exercise, and nutrition classes. Although she would lose weight during the summer, it always returned once she went back home.

Bullying began in sixth grade and  since then it left deep emotional scars. One night, her house was toilet-papered while someone wrote cruel messages like “FAT ASS” on her walkway. At fourteen, after losing sixty pounds at camp, she started high school feeling proud and confident. But her classmates made fun of her, called her mean names, and even ruined her books. It was a really hard time for her, and she often felt like giving up.

Changing schools brought her hope. She got herself  busy in music, performing, and her studies, This helped her stay mentally strong, but her weight kept going up. After high school, she went to The Berklee College of Music. She had lost seventy pounds before starting college, but she ran into big problems, including a knee injury, physical therapy, surgery, and an assault that left her on crutches. Old memories of bullying came back, and it became very hard for her to stay motivated.

In 2016, she studied in Spain, where supportive friends and teachers helped her regain confidence. Ater  returning back home, she decided to make a significant change. At 331 pounds, she underwent gastric bypass surgery in March 2017. The procedure came with serious complications, including a dangerous blood clot, but she recovered. Soon after that she shared her first dance video online. The response was mixed. While she received encouragement and support, some friends reacted negatively.

Over the next year, she lost half her body weight and continued to share her journey online. Although she received both praise and criticism, MC Solomon understood that weight loss was only part of her story. She still struggled with food cravings, body image, and self-love. For her, mental growth and emotional healing were just as important as physical change. She dreamed of removing excess skin but focused on toning her body, eating well, and creating music. Her debut EP, Skin Deep, reflected the things she had discovered.  She finally realized that all the diets and surgeries were just tools and the real work was in the mirror, learning to see the person staring back as someone who was worthy of care, saggy skin and all.

MC Solomon describes her journey as long and difficult, yet she is now finally living her dream. Her song Love What Matters is dedicated to anyone who has ever felt weak, unworthy, or overlooked. Her song is her way of saying, ‘I see you. The pain is real, but so is your strength. Don’t let them write your story for you.. It’s a daily choice, some days harder than others. But after everything, she’s learned that fighting to love this body, the one that survived the bullying, the surgery, the doubt is a fight that actually changes everything.
