A Knock at the Door, A Baby in Need And the Adoption That Changed Our Lives

A Knock at the Door, A Baby in Need And the Adoption That Changed Our Lives

Have you ever realized you almost missed something that could change your life? That’s the way I feel whenever I see into my son’s eyes.

Ten years ago, my spouse and I had  been married since three years and thinking about a happy family surrounded by kids. One Sunday during church, we learned about the urgent need for foster parents in our community. The storied were heartbreaking, so we decided to take a informative session to learn more. Following that, we realized we could no longer overlook the opportunity to assist these children. Foster care was not something we had considered before, but now we decided to give it a chance.

In the next three years, we cared for five kids, long term and adopted two baby girls. Life were full of diaper changes and different challenges. Following that, the tempo slowed down. A child in our care was placed with a family, and we didn’t get any calls for additional placements.

Concurrently, families from our congregation were relocating to an under-resourced region in South Los Angeles to establish a church and community initiatives.

We felt compelled to be with them. We gathered our daughters and relocated from the suburbs to the city, beginning a fresh chapter.

Life was non-stop, building a church, raising daughter and making the careers . Suddenly, we received a call from our foster agency. A young boy we had taken in three years prior needed a family once more. We immediately agreed. At the age of five, he came to us, and just like that, we were parenting three children who were three, four, and five years old.
