Life takes a beautiful 30-degree turn when a couple gets to know the news of how they will soon have a child. They do everything they can to give the child a beautiful life. Not a minute passes when they don’t think about the future ahead. The same was the feeling of the couple; excitement took over them. They cherished bits of the pregnancy, listed multiple names for the baby, and the husband would talk to the unborn daily.

Since the mother was now four months pregnant, it was time to get some necessary reports done, and it was then that the doctor noticed abnormalities. Something wasn’t right, so a 3D ultrasound was required to confirm if the baby was alright. However, the results broke the hearts of the soon-to-be parents. Their daughter, whom they had already decided to name Helianny, had deformities.
Such a situation happens when a child has a severe yet rare syndrome called the amniotic band syndrome; thus, the physical features of the baby and her limbs were tangled in the amniotic sac bands.. This leads to stunted growth of the child and limits development of the features.

After taking time and examining scans in detail, the doctors were sure to a great extent that the survival rate of the baby would be very low, and so, the parents could opt for termination of the pregnancy as it was not too late yet.
Imagine how heavy it would be for the parents to hear a doctor suggesting that the organs of their unborn baby could be donated. The parents stood firm and believed their daughter would be a survivor and warrior!
It was an arduous journey emotionally for the couple, but time passed, and on August 21, 2015, they sat in the hospital, holding their little angel in their arms. The mother could hold her one day after the surgery, as little Helianny was welcomed in the world through a C-section, and she weighed 10 pounds. Everyone in the room was shocked when they learned how the baby was alive.

The situation was so tough on the couple that when the mother couldn’t unite with her baby girl due to health reasons, there were rumours all over the hospital that she did not want to see the baby. But for the mother, it was magical. The moment she held Helianny in her arms, she held her gently and said, ‘Your mom is here.’
There were multiple deformities in the baby’s form, from her skull not adequately developed, to missing eyes and nose. However, the parents couldn’t help but adore their angel. She was their little miracle. Days passed, and the doctors finally allowed the couple to take Helianny home after 13 whole days, but it was when the real challenges began.

As the couple lived in a small town in Venezuela, they had access to limited health care, and the baby needed multiple surgeries, e.g., the first one was to insert a valve in her brain. The surgery aimed to manage the fluid in the baby’s brain that kept building up. The doctors had already told the parents that the chances were rare that the baby would survive.
But, again, Hailanny won against all odds.

She also underwent multiple other surgeries, e.g., for her cleft and foot, but a few major ones were kept at home as the budget of the couple was limited. The baby has turned three, and she continues to fight daily. Some people show love, while most pass harsh comments, ignoring that she is a little angel. However, what matters the most is that her family stands firm and is ready to give their all to protect the baby.
Her parents also stated that Helianny loves music, barking dogs, and water. She also undergoes therapy regularly to control her body movements and has shown significant improvement. Although their journey is arduous, Hailenny’s parents are determined that their baby will live a beautiful life surrounded by love and be a high-spirited girl full of life.
