She Held Her Grandma’s Hand in a Nursing Home—Then Quit Her Job to Give Her the Dignity of Home and the Love of Family

Marrying the right person plays a significant role in everyone’s life. Although the partner isn’t supposed to make decisions for you or impact your lifestyle, your soulmates add much good to your life. Juggling between a hectic work life and taking care of her grandmother, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and her one-year-old son, Kristin had a routine that drained her physically and emotionally.
Things changed for good when she finally married a man she had deeply loved. He became his support and took care of the finances while she chose to quit her job and take care of the family members. Although the changes were significant and impacted her life, she always wanted to be there for her grandmother.

It was in December 2017 when the realisation that Kristin’s grandmothers needed a home and family to take care of hit her. She fell for the fifth time, in just a few months, and when Kristin and her mother visited the nursing home, she repeatedly asked one question that broke Kristin’s heart. She wondered if it was time to go home yet. Kristen saw her mother breaking down while she said no, but there was no other option, as her mother already cared for her brother full-time. It would become unmanageable.
However, the realization that Kristen could do that deeply hit her as she was deciding whether to stay home to take care of her toddler.

That day, after going home, at night, Kristin sat in peace and prayed for guidance. She knew what she wanted to do! Although she struggled financially and was not doing well, she knew how important and special it is to get your family’s love. Soon, she resigned from her job and shared it with her husband and the grandmother’s doctor. Grandma was now a part of the family!

Although Kristin first worried about whether she could take enough care of her grandma and be there for her, she realized that it was one of her most amazing decisions as time passed. From shopping to having spa days, Kristin realized that her grandmother was still a young lady at heart.
Although some days are more difficult than others due to her forgetfulness, as she calls out for her mother and randomly recalls old memories, her presence in the house is cherished by every person. They know all it takes is love and patience to deal with her.
Kristin has also learned a lot about her grandmother’s past life. Although her degree was in human services, she hardly knew about caregiving, which she is well-equipped for now.

She still learns new things every day. However, every time she hears her grandma call her an angel, she knows every struggle is worth it.
While grandma might not stay for long, the memories made and the blessings the family gets every other day will always be dear to Kristin and her family!
