When Skyler’s dad could not show up for the daddy-daughter dance at school last year, this time, she had hoped, and her excitement was over the moon. She counted the days to seal the moment by finally waiting for another 365 days for the dance.
She wanted everyone to know that she had a dad, too, so she refused to dance with her grandpa. ‘Mom, I want Dad to come.’Said Skyler.
Trelysia, Skyler’s mom, tried reaching out to her ex with high hopes that he would at least show up for his daughter out of love. However, as days passed, the disappointment kept growing, too. She didn’t want to see her daughter upset again; these are the only special moments in life at this age.
As the event came near, the phone did not ring, indicating that the dad wouldn’t show up. Thinking of her daughter’s broken heart, a night before the event, she put up a post regarding how she did not know what to do to save the day.
But through these worries and disappointments, a person silently observed everything at home—an 11-year-old gentleman who knew exactly what to do. Christian knew how badly his sister wanted to dance, so he was still set to protect her innocent heart. In a single-parent household, children grow up quickly; this was an example.
At such a young age, he developed the sense that he did not want his family to be upset and immediately stepped in.
He told Mom he would dance with Skylar if Dad didn’t attend. He wanted her to know how a few men still keep their word. If not the father, the brother was an example of love and commitment.
Her mom’s eyes shone with pride, and they rushed to the store to get him a suit for the night’s dance. When Dad did not appear, Christian dressed up and saved Skyler’s night. It was as magical as it would’ve been with Dad. How proud would the mom be to raise such a gentleman?
The smile on Skylar’s face in photos from the night indicated that she was the happiest in the room. The baby girl knew she could still look up to someone, and someone showed up just for her!
Tears were turned into joy, and little Christian changed all the disappointments to pleasure with his big, wise decision.
The mother later expressed her pride in her words: ‘This is the second year her father stood her up. She cried because she wanted to go, and her brother stepped in.’
She also added that she takes great pride in thinking that she is not just raising a son, but also someone’s amazing husband one day.
