After Two Heartbreaking Losses, IVF Couple Welcomes ‘Double Rainbow’ Baby in Powerful Photo Tribute to Their Journey

Losing a child can be one of the most heartbreaking moments a couple has to go through, and so mom and dad decided to write their baby, Lennon, a heartfelt letter expressing how life has been and how they have felt since he left. It was in March when they visited the fertility clinic. Their hearts were heavier than usual as the couple had already suffered multiple losses previously. Seeing how the mothers expecting babies rested and their bellies, which had a human living inside them, kept them at peace, brought enlightened hope.

The mother longed to embrace motherhood and see Lennon play and grow with his brother Lochlan, the couple’s first miracle baby. He was born a week after the first round of IVF was successful, thus starting the couple’s fertility journey.

When the couple received the news of welcoming Lochlan into their lives, they were fearful but also hopeful that things would turn out OK. They did when he was welcomed with love at 41 weeks. He was a perfect baby, one that mom and dad waited to hold for so long.

The couple already had two embryos frozen, wishing to expand their family and add the perfect sibling to Lochlan’s life. However, the wish was no less than a battle that needed physical strength and impacted the couple emotionally. They did everything, from regular vaccinations that were required to taking all the medication; however, all they got was heartbreak in return. In an attempt to dedicate a work of art to Lennon to tell the story perfectly, the mother made him lie on a soft cloud. A rainbow was chosen as the base of the pictures, and everything required to save him from medicines, needles, pills, and patches was a significant element in the image that formed the rainbow curve.

However, the picture did not show how the embryo transfer was successful, and it seemed like things were fine until it ended in a loss. The picture does not depict the quiet moments that felt like they were going to take over, the nights she lay on the floor more broken than before, how she felt when she realised she miscarried while she was at work.

It does not show how much life changes after the incident, how the mother did not want anyone around, was filled with self-doubt, and blamed herself for everything. It shows the resilience and the strength behind it all. It shows how much the baby was loved.

The baby is the couple’s last hope to expand their family. The previous embryo, one frozen for three whole years waiting for the right time, arrived exactly three years and three days after his brother, filling the couple’s life and home with sunshine and happiness—their double rainbow baby! On 14th December 2017, the couple welcomed him, and hearing his first cry made their hearts flutter with joy.

It took the couple a lot of heartbreaks, pain, and lows, but watching the baby sleep peacefully reminds them how they wouldn’t have met him without it all, and it all makes sense now. If you, too, are struggling, this is your reminder not to give up!
