Meeting your school friends can always be bliss, especially when you are all busy with the regular 9-5, surviving through each day. After two decades, he came across her high school friend, Luke. The message he received back made his heartbeat rush and palms sweaty. Luke only had a few days left to live!
He immediately messaged his partner about how the doctors had told Luke that he would not be here for long and asked if they could go and meet him.
He got a swift reply. It was time for a road trip! Without wasting any time, they packed stuff up, and along with their son, the couple was off to travel from one state to another. The first stop was the hospital.
Luke had a straightforward wish that he knew about: to feel the sand beneath his feet. It was a little wish that could easily be fulfilled, so being friends, why not? His heart knew he had to do this for Luke, as every time they talked over the phone, Luke mostly mentioned how he lived so near the beach but could not visit.

It was Saturday noon when they visited the Gold Coast hospital. The sun shone brightly, and it was a perfect cloudy day. He reassured Luke that whatever he wished for, they would do it together, and eventually, the first stop was the beach.
Due to the deteriorating health, Luke’s vision was affected to a great extent, so just like he previously used to do, he was not able to check out the local woman. Thus, the first thing they did was to cruise through the surfers’ paradise. Jaye, the other friend with them right in the moment, transformed into a commentator to make Luke smile. He described each beautiful lady around and explained the scenic details with every tiny detail included.
The soundtracks took all three of them back to their high school days, as the 90s heavy metal band played one by one, whether Pantera, Danzig, or Metallica. When they reached the sand, Luke’s wheelchair did not cooperate much. This time, Jaye took control of the situation by pulling a few meters back in speed and stopping right when Luke’s feet were so close to the shoreline.
There was peace on Luke’s face as the breeze hit his face, and he could finally feel sand on his feet. Chatting with the seagulls, saying ‘Mine ‘Repeatedly, made it clear that it was all he needed to escape all he was going through in those days.

As he joked that one thing they missed out on was chips, their mate Dazz rushed to get them from the nearest shop. While all this happened, Jaye asked Luke if he wanted to hit the water. He didn’t have to worry about anything, as his friends would carry him.
He agreed, and in the next few minutes, Luke, with assistance, was at the water’s edge. They had chips, and Luke shared his with the seagulls, too. The next thing on his list was beer; thus, the next stop was a local shark bar. There, Luke sipped a VB and watched his team win. He also tried eating a burger.
It was not long after that day that Luke lived. He passed away peacefully on the following Monday, but finally, after so many years, he was able to live on the weekend before. This story is a reminder of how you should always tell your friends how much they mean to you and how much you love each of them.
