I Wasn’t Expecting Much from a DNA Test, Then I Found My Daughter

In early April, just a few weeks after the COVID-19 lockdown began, I received an unexpected Facebook message from a woman named Alexandra Lovett. We did not have any mutual friends, so normally I would have ignored or deleted the message without a second thought. But something made me open it.

She explained that she had taken a DNA test with Ancestry and discovered something shocking the results showed I was her biological parent. Her message said, “i am your daughter, and i have been searching for you my entire life.” I was stunned. I was a father, and I was not aware of it.

I am happy you are with my husband its being 20 years. So the news was hard to believe at first. Alexandra told me that in 1986, she said her mother and I had a brief encounter after meeting at a club. Her mother only knew my first name and never saw me again. Soon after, she found out she was pregnant and raised Alexandra on her own.

Back then, I was 22 years old and drinking heavily. I have been sober for over 25 years now, but at the time, I often blacked out and cannot remember everything. Alexandra stated that we met at a gay club, which I think fit with what little I remember. When I checked my Ancestry results, there she was, right at the top of the list. The test said “Parent/Child Match 100%.” I could not believe my eyes.

I called her immediately. So many emotions were running through me, and I had countless questions. My husband was with me during our first FaceTime call. Alexandra smiled and said, “i have been looking for you, Papa, and now I have two dads!” She also told me something surprising her last name, Love, means “Little Wolf,” and my name is Wolf. That really struck me.

Since that day, we have talked almost every day. We have spent hours on FaceTime, texting, and getting to know each other better. The initial shock slowly faded, replaced by a deep and loving connection. My heart feels fuller than ever before.

Alexandra flew to Sante Fe from Oregon just to pay us a visit, and that week we spent our full-time together as it was astonishing. I took her to Denver to meet my mother her grandmother along with my sister, cousins, and close friends. Everyone welcomed her warmly, with lots of hugs, gifts, and plenty of good food. It felt like she had always belonged.

This is the first grandchild for my mom. Though none of us expected to have children, she always hoped to become a grandmother. Now that wish has come true.

When Alexandra first reached out, she told me she was not asking for anything but just wanted to find her father. Now that we have connected, I feel truly blessed that she found me. She is really and different persona i have ever seen
