Senior prom is a special event in everyone’s life, when every girl takes out enough time to pick the perfect dress, choose the right makeup, and search for accessories days before prom arrives. It was on 27th April 2018 when the day came for Kaylie. Amanda hugged her daughter with shining eyes because of how beautiful she looked that day, and then it was goodbye as she was off to her prom. Who knew it was the last goodbye? The mother would never be able to hug her daughter, one who filled her heart with pride and love again.
Kaylie looked beautiful in the dress she chose, and because her closest friends surrounded her, she looked even more radiant. Before Kaylie left home, Amanda told her to be careful and said, ” I love you. “Kaylie responded with, ” I love you too,” and agreed to be cautious. Fifteen minutes later, she was no more. A tragedy struck before she could reach the prom as the car in which Kaylie was travelling crashed. It was a tragic incident, and one that was disastrous as Kaylie’s body was thrown approximately 50 feet away when the accident happened.

After the accident, she was rushed to the University of Cincinnati, where her treatment was immediately started; however, only three days after battling for life, she was declared brain dead. On 30th April, her mother’s life became dark after losing the spark of her life. Her 18-year-old girl, whom she loved so dearly, would never be able to be there for her again. While Amanda wrote about the incident and her bond with Kaylie, she wrote about how Kaylie was not just her daughter. Daughters are no less than best friends for their mothers, as after becoming a mother, a woman’s lives change so adversely.
They do everything for their families, and on the journey, they somehow lose themselves. Thus, Amanda recalls how the two grew up together, as Amanda was very young when she became a mother. Therefore, from teaching to learning new things, they did it all together! Kaylie was fond of staying in her family’s presence, even though children look forward to socializing or isolation, two extremes.

Kaylie was often seen sitting in her grandfather’s presence, whom she adored the most. She was joyed when her grandfather lived approximately 13 more years after two kidney transplants. His presence clearly meant a lot to her as he was no less than an inspiration for her, and from then onwards, she always wished to become an organ donor too. The girl was one of the god-gifted children blessed with immense ambition to do good in life, and whatever she pursued, she was always excelling in it. She was passionate to learn new things, as, despite being in high school, Kaylie had already completed several college courses from Miami University. Not just this, she balanced her life well and worked part-time.

Because of her ambitious nature, Kaylie was able to attend her dream university, Ohio State University, to study medicine with her best friend. Amanda recalls how she was teary when she saw the acceptance letter. Before she passed away, she did something inspiring: She became an organ donor, as her grandpa greatly inspired her. This was the final act of generosity that later saved the lives of six people through Life Center!
Two of them also saw the world through Amanda’s eyes, and over 50 people received donations for skin or tissue issues. How would it feel to be god’s favorite? As a memory of Kaylie, her family was given a teddy with her heartbeat and a necklace with her thumbprint. Something her mother has as her final memory, to cherish her and to recall how amazing her child was. Amanda is also glad she could see organs being given and received; it was a magical experience. Although Kaylie could not live long, what she did before leaving is her legacy, which is to be continued forever!
