It was just a regular day, and she was off to pick up her middle son from school. However, the regular school day did not turn out as she had expected. As she walked inside the school, carrying her toddler on her hip, she could reach her son’s science class.
But what she saw was unusual. A little boy was crying, his face all red, and he was holding his face. On the other hand, her son stood nearby with his hands crossed and scrunched eyebrows, but he looked calm. The teacher in front of them tried to handle the situation by asking for the entire story. If any other parent saw their child in such a situation, they might instantly react, but the mother knew! It was not what it looked like; she knew she wasn’t a bully.
While trying to understand what was happening, a volunteer approached her and told her how an event had occurred and that she needed to be present in the room, too. So she nodded, and both of them went inside the room. The moment her son saw his mother, there was a sign of relief on his face, as if he knew things would be fine after she walked in.
The teacher asked a question that didn’t seem right. He said, ‘Did you hit him?’ Hearing the question, the mother asked the teacher if she could talk to her son. It seemed like now the teacher was relieved, too. So, now the mother was asking about what had happened.
The child, without hesitating, started narrating the story of how three of the kids were sent to the bathroom, and the boy, now crying and standing in the corner, began pushing the little one in the group. Although he was stopped multiple times as he feared the boy might get hurt, the big kid did not stop. So he admitted that this was the reason he was punched. Hard. Upon hearing the entire incident with great patience, the teacher was shocked. Of course, everyone in the room and those who knew the incident assumed he was guilty. So, they were left in utter disbelief.
While all this was happening, the boy’s parents also arrived, and when he was questioned if all that was told was true, he admitted it. Because the kid was stressed, he thought he could take out all his aggression and frustration on the innocent little kid. The mother saw where this aggressive behavior came from—the parents.
So, the mother waited no more and took her children across the hall. She even treated them with ice cream for how he protected the little boy and handled the situation, which took a lot of courage.
Although the mother has never encouraged her kids to be violent or show any aggression, it is not okay to see wrongs happening when you have the power to fix them. The mother now knows she is raising a protector and is proud!
