LJ Herman and her husband had an embedded belief that adoption was in their blood, and they had always considered it a key option rather than a backup plan. Both of them had mothers who were adopted, and adoption ran in the family, as they had seen multiple siblings and cousins get adopted, too.
The couple got married in 2011 and was all set to build a beautiful family, but things kept getting tough. Even after two years, they couldn’t conceive a baby.
This was when the couple switched to getting fertility treatments that resulted in IUIs. Before all this trauma could take all of their life, and rather than laugh, their house would be surrounded with silent tears. LJ and her husband had prepared their minds to adopt a baby. By chance, when they decided to visit a store to grab a few things in a few days, they came across a couple who had also adopted recently.
It was their luck that they were easily connected to the agency through the couple, who assured them that their family would be expanded. In 2016, the company presented a dream match: twin boys.
Hearing the news was bliss, as the couple was sure their family would finally feel complete. However, the issue was raising the money, which was a hefty amount.
It’s true that when God is on your side, nothing can stop you. A clear example was this couple, who raised $45,000 in 48 hours! However, they were utterly disappointed to hear that the mother was reconsidering her decision, and the nurse did not allow them to enter the NICU. However, LJ states they were sad but also at peace that God had something special for them.
The couple had requested boys only, but soon another case of a baby girl was opened. When the social worker showed the couple a picture of the baby’s mother, Lj felt deeply connected and that the baby was meant to become a part of their family. Intuition and your gut sometimes lead you to the most beautiful road you take.
The couple did not delay the visit; they talked over the phone with the family for two days before they finally decided to fly to New Orleans. The baby was born a few hours later, when the couple met the biological mother. The moment the couple opened the hospital room door, the mothers squealed in excitement and expressed how beautiful she had found Lj, and she was glad that the couple was here for the baby.
The couple spent three days with the birth mom, sharing their personal story and hearing hers. In such a short period, it felt like they had known each other forever. After three days, when it was finally time for the discharge, LJ held the baby in her arms and also wheeled the birth mom out. The woman sobbed, one out of happiness that she finally had a beautiful baby, a part of her life, and the other while giving away the love of her life.
LJ’s post also stated how incredible she found the biological mother and how angels assisted the mother when the baby was being handed over to LJ. The couple is now also preparing to adopt a second baby, and despite an arduous journey, their hearts are grateful for everything they had to overcome to reach where they stand right now!
