They lived a perfect life together, full of love and laughter, but life is all about certainty. This is the story of a loss that someone can never get over. Kelly Brown had a beautiful family. She lived with her husband and four sons- Jonathon and Christopher, who had moved out as they were old enough, while the other two, Hunter and Carter, were in High School.
They always used to sit together and plan how the next few years would be. They wanted to travel and spend more time together as a family, but the tables turned when tragic events occurred.
Carter was deeply in love with one of his friends, now his girlfriend, Kaylee. Their bond was special as they were always together doing things they loved, from watching their favorite movies to hiking. Life was like a sweet treat for them. When Carter had to leave for college, Kaylee stuck by his side and supported his decision while she prepared for senior year. It was September 2017 when their life took a turn. Christopher had an opioid overdose, and he lost his life! Something the family had never expected when he was young. Just a 24-year-old! This crushed the family and broke their hearts to the core, so when Carter came home to live with the family in the darkest moments, Kaylee stayed by his side all this time.
Over time, multiple events happened. For example, in Christopher’s memory, the family held a celebration of life and planted a memorial tree. The healing period began for the family as time passed. After dark days, it was good to expect a brighter life, and it seemed that things got better as Carte got an extended ship in Florida. But two weeks after he received the news, he died.
The mother described the pain of losing a second child as being ‘shattered.’ While he was ready to surprise the love of his life, Kaylee, with the news and was on his way home, he fell asleep at the wheel, and the car crashed.
Everyone in the home, and Kaylee, felt like they had lost something significant in life and were trying to pass each day with a heavy heart and tired soul. However, it was time for prom for Kaylee, and when someone asked her to become his partner, her answer was a straight ‘no.’ It was hard for her to get over him! Kelly, the mother, knew about this and told her husband, Rob, so he knew what he was supposed to do. If she let him, he was ready to take his late son’s girlfriend to the prom.
Kaylee was in tears of happiness when Rob asked her if he could escort her to the event. In the next few days, they picked out formal dresses, Rob cleaned his car, and he was all set to honour his son’s love. After the prom, they also went out for food, to the restaurant where Carter and Kaylee had their first date. A cherished memory it was!
Seeing them together at the prom made everyone emotional. While everyone cheered them on, they experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. They knew it was hard for Kaylee to live without Carter, and everyone knew their love was strong and beautiful.
Later, when Kaylee posted the photos and videos from the prom, people online sent messages full of love and support to her from all across the globe.
This healed a part of her as she battled all the feelings of loss and heartbreak within her. She said it was the prom that was not planned, but needed!
The browns won at life by being more like a family for the girl who loved their son so much. This is the beauty of love and kindness.
