The path to motherhood for Ashley and John was anything but typical. They knew it would be very difficult to have an organic child after finding out at age 21 that Ashley had premature ovarian disappointment. “I have always wanted to adopt a youngster!” was John’s resolute response when Ashley told him about her analysis early in their association. After suffering the loss of family members and two failures, they started looking into donor egg fruitfulness treatments. They eventually made the decision to give adoption their whole care.

After satisfying out paperwork, creating a profile video, and going through a home study, Ashley and John began the acceptance process in March 2018. By July, their profile was live, but they were not designated by any birth mothers month after month. They were told to be patient, but it was heartbreaking and trying. They then got a life-changing call on November 29, 2018, a date that held great meaning in their relationship: they had been designated by a birth family, and their son was due on or around December 19.

Three weeks later, on the day of her introduction, they had their first meeting with the birth mother. Despite her early awkwardness, Ashley immediately connected with her a kind, strong woman who was going to make a huge expense. Ashley saw firsthand the strength required to give birth to and give up their son, Ellis, while standing next to the birth mother during work. The birth mother’s quiet forte was evident; she didn’t say anything while assertive, letting Ashley to fully embrace her role as a mother.

Ashley held Ellis first when he was born, a nearly 10-pound bundle of joy, and then rolled him into the next room where John was behind you. Given how much the birth mother had given, that moment was filled with love and thankfulness, albeit bittersweet. Ashley resources the fact that Ellis looks a lot like his birth mother.

Ashley and John are thankful every day for the lovely, astonishing journey that brought him to their family, and his cumulative coos and cries fill their home with joy.
