Kensington Palace shares unseen footage of Catherine and George at RAF base for Armed Forces Day

Kensington Palace has shared previously unseen footage of Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Prince George during a recent visit to an RAF base to mark Armed Forces Day.

The video shows the Princess and her eldest son visiting RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, where they spent time with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The footage was posted with the caption: “Honouring Service and Sacrifice.”

It added: “Marking Armed Forces Day by reflecting on time spent with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby.

“Learning about the remarkable history of these aircraft and meeting the pilots and engineers who preserve their legacy. A powerful reminder of the courage, skill and dedication of those who serve, past and present.

“Thank you to all those who have served and continue to serve.”

Catherine has served as Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby since August 2023.

During the visit, the pair learned more about the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which is based at the station.

RAF Coningsby is one of two Quick Reaction Alert bases protecting UK airspace, alongside RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland.

The base is home to Typhoon fighter jets that defend British skies around the clock, while also preserving the historic aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The Typhoon fleet based there remains a key part of Britain’s air defence.

RAF Coningsby also holds personal significance for Catherine, as she lived nearby with Prince William during his pilot training.

Prince George’s interest in aviation has been noted before. In 2024, Prince William told Squadron Leader Chrissie Lacey at RAF Coningsby that George could be “a pilot in the making.”

Back in 2016, Catherine also told a cadet that George was “obsessed” with air cadets and hoped to join one day.

Armed Forces Day, being marked across the UK today, honours serving personnel, veterans, cadets and military families.

Earlier this week, London Mayor Sadiq Khan led a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall alongside members of the Armed Forces.

He said: “We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all those who have protected and continue to protect our country and our freedoms.”
