We Weren’t Trying to Prove We Belonged—We Just Did. Love Made Us a Family

After their marriage, in a very short time, the couple was on the same page regarding their desire to build a family, so they started trying. Full of excitement and hope, they awaited to embark on the new journey, but after several negative tests, their hopes faded.
After a few months, they decided to see a doctor who recommended IUI, and the couple, with high hopes, immediately agreed. Seven failed attempts, so they decided to see a specialist this time, but the visit did not go as well.
Although the doctor did recommend getting an IUI, he also suggested opting for adoption or surrogacy because the chances of her conceiving a baby were low due to fertility issues. A year of grief and frustration when the pregnancy tests were negative led to this news being a relief for the couple rather than a disappointment, as they wouldn’t have to grieve silently anymore.

However, since the news was broken down to the couple, they were distant emotionally, and the house full of joy and love now had silence. Was this how they would live for the rest of their lives? With a heavy chest and flooding emotions, the couple could not talk about it.
Rather than just giving up on everything, adoption was the light that could brighten their dull lives again. Moreover, what made the decision relatable on another level was that the husband had been adopted by his stepfather. In contrast, one of her sisters was also adopted from the wife’s family. The process of adoption is lengthy and extremely tough, especially when you are supposed to specify the age, gender, and race of a child you are willing to adopt. Why would there be conditions when it comes to giving love to an innocent child?

Every time they ticked a box on the paper, the feeling was heavy, but the form concluded that they were looking forward to adopting a child who was white and preferably Hispanic. Although the couple was sure they could love and care for any child, it would be easy to explain if the child belonged to their family type. They weren’t looking forward to answering people all their lives.
The match was immediate when a girl reportedly from San Antonio needed a home, but unfortunately, it did not work out. Disappointment after disappointment. When she found out that she wouldn’t be able to adopt the baby, she cried on her way home. After all, years of grief had to come out in some form. Later, a Hispanic boy was also matched two weeks before his birth, but the plan also changed. The couple had a hundred questions on their minds. Would they ever be given a chance to build a family?

The grief depended on time, but they decided not to give up. The couple went to adoption centers with challenging questions to answer. Wasn’t limiting adoption something very harsh on such a story? Two people who have the desire to give love to a little angel.
International adoption was the next option, so they started paperwork to go to China and even looked for and contacted multiple adoption centers. In the process, news of Haiti got stuck in their heart and minds. A boy and a girl had just arrived, so they asked for pictures and knew. Upon seeing those pictures, the husband said: ‘There they are. They are our kids.’ Completing the adoption process would take around three years or more, as it was international, but the couple wanted them. They visited them every six months and waited and manifested to get the visas soon.

During the process, the couple also received a call about a local boy who needed a permanent home, so they immediately adopted him. He was sunshine! The house felt like a home again. Fifty days after the adoption, both children got their visas, and there they were—a family of five now!
A heart full of faith and pure love made them experience the beauty of life despite its pain, and the couple never knew what was coming next. The story is magical!
