She consistently had the will to adopt for years now; however, the fact that her husband was not sure how it would always confine her. They did have children, and the family was full of joy and surrounded, but as she saw how amazing it was to be a foster parent through her parents, who were foster parents to a girl, Shailee, she too wanted to experience it.
The family planned a day out to spend quality time together one weekend. Thus, she went hiking with her brother and Shailee, and her husband joined them. Shailee had been a part of the family for a while now and was a sweet little girl, but it was the husband’s first time meeting her. While all of them were having lunch and chatting, they had their first conversation. It was when Shailee shared how she felt and wished someone would adopt her.
That one conversation, which lasted only a few minutes, changed her husband’s entire perspective about adoption. The man who never showed interest in expanding the family through adoption overnight talked about how the couple should start taking classes to become licensed foster parents as soon as possible. This was exciting news for the wife, who always silently prayed for her husband to support her in the adoption. The couple started taking classes without delay in March 2016, and by the end of the year, Shailee moved into their house in December. It was a significant yet exciting change!
While she lived with the couple all this time, Shailee was unaware of how the couple wanted to adopt and only knew that she would be living with them as her foster parents were closing their license. Time passed, and the bond between Shailee and the couple grew with each passing day. It felt like she had been a part of their tiny home forever!
When the adoption was finalized, the couple took Shailee and their son, Skyler, out for ice cream and shared that Shailee was officially their daughter. Everyone in the car was equally happy and in tears.
In 2017, it was a breezy day. On 7th November, the adoption became official.
The couple kept it a secret because they wanted to surprise the kids, as they knew how long they had waited and how impatient they were to hear the news. She was nervous when it was finally time to share, so she also turned on the camera to record the special moment they would share. How Shailee reacted to the news was the best thing ever!
It felt like their purpose in coming into this life was complete, seeing the girl’s happiness, and this, too, had been their dream for so long. Shailee’s shiny eyes and smile reflected the little girl’s happiness in the courthouse. Shailee’s presence had brought nothing but joy and love to the family. It was the most excellent decision ever!
